Review: Crave Ankle Restraints

I’m a big fan of purple, so when I saw the Crave Ankle Restraints by Spartacus they immediately went on my wishlist. At a little over $30, they seemed like a good place to start when putting together a proper collection of items for play at my local dungeon.

These restraints arrived in a tasteful see-through plastic box that popped open with no trouble. They were nestled inside a cardstock insert depicting a naked girl in braids in a pose that covers her vulva and breasts. She is, of course, wearing the restraints and looking out from the box with a very sexy expression. The back lists the features of the restraints; leather, faux fur lining, durable black hardware, and a sizing from 7-10″. While the box served its shipping purpose, I didn’t bother holding onto it for any longer. It’s just too bulky to use for storage.

My first impression of these cuffs was a lasting one; they are so soft. The faux fur feels great on the skin, and it is impossible to feel any of the hardware underneath it. The leather is very pliable as well and the edges have been cut in a way that they don’t dig into the skin. The only discomfort I found wearing these was when my partner applied weight on top of them; the D ring pressed painfully into my ankle and we had to re-adjust our position a few times.

Another thing about these cuffs is that they do run a bit small. If your ankles are larger than about 11″ in circumference, these will not fit you. My ankles are about 9″ and I wear them on the third hole. Even so, I have my doubts that these would actually fit someone with 7″ ankles; they would likely be too loose. One thing I found annoying with my small ankles is that there is no hardware to ‘catch’ the extra length of leather that comes from tightening these cuffs to one of the first few holes. The strap just dangles there awkwardly, which I found to be a bit distasteful. Regarding the hardware, I also had a few problems with the buckle prong slipping through the corner of the frame to the other side. It confused me for a few seconds before I figured out how to fix the issue.

In order to test out the strength of these cuffs, I wore them a few times in the bedroom but also took them out to a play party. My partner and I connected them to various things using weighted carabiners and clips from the hardware store. I’m happy to say that so far, these cuffs have held up great. I’ve tugged at them, struggled against them, and they show no sign of giving out. A couple of times the end of the cuff that was tucked under the other slid out sideways, but it didn’t cause any discomfort and we just tucked the end back in at the next pause in scene. One warning, though: these are not meant for any kind of suspension play. They simply won’t take that much weight. Also, please be safe in your play and never leave your partner alone if they are bound. Emergencies happen, and someone should be there to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

If you’re looking for some good beginner cuffs or something to step up your play, I would highly recommend these. They’re sturdy, fun to use, and you can even get matching wrist cuffs to go with them. They’re especially nice if you’re craving something a little less black (but if you like black, check these out too!).
